What a massage costs in Berlin —
and what the price tells you
Berlin is cheaper than London and pricier than Warsaw, and inside the city the same 60 minutes can cost 45 € or 160 €. Here is what the ranges are, what usually sits behind them, and where I am on that scale.
The ranges in 2026
Thai and Asian studios
60 minutes, often with a set menu of oil, Thai and foot massage. Busy, fast turnover, quality varies a lot between rooms.
Independent wellness studios
One or two therapists, one room, 60 minutes. This is where most «I finally found my masseur» stories come from.
Hotel and day spas
The hour plus the pool, the robe and the towel service. You pay for the building.
Physio on a Rezept
Only with a doctor's prescription and only for medical massage, in 15 to 20 minute units. A different thing entirely.
These are ranges I see across the city, not statistics — take them as orientation. The middle band is where prices have moved most since 2023: 55 € became 70 €, and 90 minutes went from 85 € to around 100 €.
What sits behind the price
Three things drive it: rent, who is holding the hands, and how many people go through the room a day. A studio near Kurfürstendamm pays for the address. A place with eight rooms and a queue pays for speed. A single therapist with ten years of practice pays for neither, which is why the middle band is often where the best value sits — and where the reviews tell you the most, because they are about one person, not a rota.
What the price rarely tells you: how firm the pressure is, whether the hour is really an hour or 50 minutes plus changing, and whether anyone will try to sell you a ten-session card at the end. Those you learn from the website or from asking.
What a Rezept changes
If a doctor prescribes «Massage» in Germany, it is medical massage at a physiotherapy practice, paid mostly by the Krankenkasse, in short units. It is not a wellness hour and cannot be booked as one. Wellness massage — the 60 minutes on a warm table with oil — is always private, paid by you, with no prescription involved. More on the difference in how massage works in Germany.
Cash, cards and tips
Cash is still common with independent therapists in Berlin, and many take only cash — I am one of them. It is worth checking before you arrive. Tips are not expected: five to ten percent or rounding up is normal, nothing is also normal. The price on the website is the full price.
My prices
40 minutes back, neck and arms 60 €. Every 60-minute massage — full body, sports, deep tissue, lymphatic, anti-cellulite — 70 €. 90 minutes 100 €, 120 minutes 130 €. Short formats from 30 €. Paid in cash after the session, no packages, no minimum number of visits. I work alone in a room at Joachim-Karnatz-Allee 21 in Tiergarten, fifteen minutes on foot from the main station, and speak English, Russian and Ukrainian.
